The Opera of the Future will be the centerpiece in the renovation and rejuvenation of the original building designed by I.M. Pei & Partners (1984). A four-story cube in the center of the building will be transformed into a 260+ seat, state-of-the-art experimental media theater surrounded by project studios and workshops. Entrances to the 110,000-sq-ft. building will be upgraded, new services introduced, and commu-nication stairs added that will open up and energize Media Lab groups while putting these activities on display. The complete rehabilitation of the original building will coincide and connect with an extension of the Media Lab designed by Fumihiko Maki.
