Shenyang International Finance Center - Tallest Building in Northeast China and One of the Tallest Buildings in the World
Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China — On May 26, 2008 the groundbreaking ceremony for the Shenyang International Finance Center ("Shenyang IFC") was held in northeast China's financial hub, Shenyang City. It marks the birth of a new landmark complex proudly presented by Henderson Land Development Company Limited ("Henderson Land") and Pei Partnership Architects. Upon completion, the 89-story, 420-meter tall Class A office building will join the league of the world's most iconic mega towers as the tallest building in northeast China and one of the tallest buildings in the world. It will be the signature landmark for a retail, hotel and service apartment complex slated to be the region's largest.
Pei Partnership Architects is the appointed architect for the 89-storey mega tower; and Aedas Limited, one of the world's largest architectural practices, is designing the master plan for the development. Mr. L.C. Pei, Partner-in-Charge of Pei Partnership Architects remarks, “We are proud of our association with Henderson Land Development and look forward to our participation in this future landmark.”
Officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony was Dr. Lee Shau Kee, GBM, Chairman of Henderson Land who was joined by Mr. Zhang Wenyue, Secretary of CCP Liaoning Provincial Committee and Mr. Chen Zhenggao, Governor of Liaoning Provincial Government. Office floors will have ceiling heights of 2.80 meters and floor-to-ceiling silver-reflective glass installed with triple glazed window units for sound isolation and environmental comfort. 18 trading floors with up to 4.20m ceiling heights are distributed throughout the tower. The top floors will contain an observation level and restaurant with direct dedicated shuttle lifts accessible from the ground floor.
The tower is designed to attain instant iconic status in Shenyang with its distinctive form, height and geometry. The aluminum and glass curtain wall with its unique diagonal bracing will be a signature feature conveying its mega-structure concept directly and proudly. At nighttime these diagonals are delineated in white light drawing the eye to its pinnacle a full 420 meters above ground level while the four deeply recessed corners with their alternating "shelves" will become vertical beacons aiming upward to the clouds.
At holidays and during special events, embedded LED lights integrated into the curtain wall will be capable of creating an unlimited variety of festival effects in still or moving images in any color or intensity.
With its unrivalled location offering easy access to railway and subway stations, state-of-the-art facilities and intelligent design, the Shenyang IFC will be 'the' address in the city for mainland and foreign companies. Commanding a gross floor area of 5,700,000 sq ft, this modern development provides unparallel connectivity between the Grade A offices, serviced apartments, 5-star suite hotel, 4-level retail mall and transport links.

The Shenyang International Financial Center is scheduled for completion in 2012.
